If anyone can find a pic of a small full green please post to show the difference thank you Few variegated fronds ….. There is a slight blonde strip but that why i asked is the green form Always green or does it have. Appears to be the green form. Never observed even hints of varigation on any of the solid green specimens i have seen in both FL. Now correct me if I am wrong is it true that even the green ones will spit out some variation in its life span ?
Another possibility that could be of concern is, if it was pot grown and roots had exited the drain holes and anchored into the ground, they may have been severed when lifting the pot from the ground. Repeat the kelp extract/ water mix in 2 weeks. I was advised by the seller to apply a kelp extract/ water mix, then heavy water every other day, with superthrive/ water every five days.

If this one produces seed, you should be able to tell if they have a chance.. While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i’d collect were empty or basically liquid when opened. The only mature ( and flowering /seeding ) specimens i’m currently familiar with are those in Kopsick’s collection. You did not get a foxy gold palm that was basically bare root and a palm you specifically said you did not want!!! You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price.
What is the difference between Foxtail & Foxylady seedlings?
I’m hoping that the foxy lady will turn all green it only has 1 frond that is variegated. I’ve been growing this foxy lady a few years now and I think it’s time to rehome her. Is there any way to tell if seeds are hybridized by looking at them as they develop? So my question would be if this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun The green form tends to perform better in full all day sun than the variegated which burns more easily especially in hot dry sun.
Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting. I wonder if the very elongated seed has more Veitchia traits and the more rounded F2 seed has the foxtail traits? Typically I find the F1 does have the hybrid vigor, except when they are very variegated. Only the variegated FL produced viable seed so far, but none of the seedlings are variegated.
- Boron deficiency has been identified as the cause of palm leaning syndrome.
- Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed.
- I’ve got several foxtails (probably too many, but it was the first “exotic” tree that I really liked), some common King palms, and some Kentias.
- I used a 4 foot bamboo stick I bought at Home Depot and tied it to the broken leaf.
- If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too.
- There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation.

- Anytime now the frond on the left, which is against the lean will fall off, and you can see the angle of the newest frond which should be on that side of the palm is leaning to the right.
- I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida.
- Perhaps as a couple of adjacent palms get a little larger I’ll have to be proactive and remove it, along with a -postmortem of what was happening internally at the weeping site.
- While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i’d collect were empty or basically liquid when opened.
- Yep, I was told it’s the mother plant genes that determine the fruit/seed so you can’t tell an F1 hybrid without growing it!
- Most likely a resold Rancho Soledad plant or a Florida import from Sparkman.
@here does anyone have Foxy Lady seed they would like to sell? Wanting to put them out but not if they’re not a true hybrid. Hybrids seem to have a higher rate of growth for some reason. The seed looks pretty elongated, so I would think it would have a lot of Vetchia characteristics. Maybe something I might try to track as time goes on.

Or is there anyone on this forum growing the legendary tree? Lol but really I’ve only heard amazing things from this palm and I absolutely love the looks from it. The hybrid Wodyetia bifurcata x Veitchia arecina.
Foxy Lady in Trouble!
That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid. Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail. I do not grow foxtails, so there could not be a mix up there. I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile? I don’t want to give a utility an excuse to start cutting back other healthy palms in my garden that are even further from the phone lines than this one. Perhaps as a couple of adjacent palms get a little larger I’ll have to be proactive and remove it, along with a -postmortem of what was happening internally at the weeping site.
@96720 Taking a look at your foxy lady in the pic. I have an f2 foxy lady I might be interested in letting go if you are interested I can come pick up that palm at your convenience, deliver you $200 cash, plus the 3 Pseudophoenix seedlings in the pic if you would be interested in selling.

The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos. What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you
Unfortunately for you, you’ve got that nasty brown spotting along with the crown lean which makes it look like this one is on the decline. You can see how the trunk is starting to sort of concave a little on the side with the brown spotting. I guess I better start thinking about what I want to plant in it’s place eventually. Yet another sign of demise after the last frond dropped is a horizontal crack in the most external crownshaft sheath.
